Periodic eye and vision examinations are an important part of preventive health care.

- Computer-Assisted Eye Examinations
To take high-resolution pictures inside the eye, we use a computer-integrated digital imaging system to record a detailed view of the retina. Since nothing touches the eye, photo-documentation is painless. This digital image provides an excellent reference point for future comparisons.
Retinal photography assists in the detection and management of problems such as diabetic changes, hypertensive retinopathy, macular degeneration, optic nerve disease, and retinal holes or thinning.

We recommend that all our patients receive this test. It is especially important for people with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, retinal diseases, flashing lights, floaters, headaches, or a strong glasses prescription.

We are proud to introduce the latest in retinal image, the Optomap. It is painless, quick, and the doctors' preferred method at looking at the health of your eye. This instrument will enhance our ability to detect and monitor retinal defects associated with common systemic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and thyroid problems. Through this digital imaging of the retina, we can observe early changes in the eye relating to glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. This technology is now our new standard of care.
What Parents Need to Know
Children's vision care is essential to every child's development. Experts say that over 80 percent of what a child learns in school is presented visually, so making sure your son or daughter has good vision can make a big difference in their academic performance.
Routine eye exams for children can detect any nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism your child has so it can be promptly treated with eyeglasses or contact lenses. Routine exams are also needed to make sure your child's eyes are healthy and to rule out amblyopia, strabismus, and other binocular vision problems that may interfere with your child's vision development, academic performance, and sports vision.
Early Intervention is Essential
Our Children's Eye Care Program is designed to educate parents on how to recognize the symptoms of eye diseases and disorders in their children between newborn and 36 months of age. This program encourages parents who think their child has a vision or eye problem to have their child's eyes examined as soon as possible.
Every child, even those without noticeable eye problems, should have a vision screening and/or eye examination before his or her fifth birthday. Good vision is essential for proper physical development and educational progress in growing children. Early detection of treatable eye disease in infancy and childhood can have far-reaching implications for vision and, in some cases, for general health.
A: Most children have healthy, normal eyes, but a few are born with serious eye diseases or disorders, some of which may not be obvious. In most cases, these problems can be identified - and treated - even during the first few days of life. But without early intervention, usually before the age of five, a child with an untreated eye problem may suffer from serious vision loss, or even blindness. We encourage parents who think their child has a vision or eye problem to have their child's eyes examined by our highly trained optometrists as soon as possible.
A: Once we examine your child's eye health we will discuss all options available to you including further treatment by our medical director Dr. Alan Berg, M.D. who can recognize disorders and ensure that proper treatment is received immediately.
A: Your young child might not be able to tell you if he or she has an eye problem, but parents are usually the first to recognize the signs of eye disease in their children. If thick glasses worn at an early age or vision loss in childhood run in your family, then your child should be examined early. We also recommend bringing your child in for an eye screening to determine whether your child’s eyes need further attention.
A: Yes! Every child, even those without noticeable eye problems, should have a vision screening and/or eye examination before his or her fifth birthday. In fact we see children as young as two.
